Dr. Ashley's Burgers

Composed of a variety of pastured meats, liver, and spices, these burgers are flavorful and nutrient-dense.  Take care to source quality meat that has been raised appropriately.  Pastured animals are not exposed to the onslaught of toxic substances and GMO feeds that conventionally produced animals raised in confinement are and therefore more nutritious and have beneficial fatty acids.

The addition of ground liver gives these burgers a punch of nutrition such as vitamin A, all of the B vitamins including B12, folate, iron, copper, zinc, and COq10.  Unfortunately, many people believe that the liver is unfit to consume because one of its roles within the body is to neutralize toxins.  However, the liver is not a storage unit for toxins.  Toxins the body cannot eliminate are often stored within fat as well as the nervous system; not the liver.  Organ meats from responsibly raised animals on pasture are nutrient-dense super foods.  We have served these burgers at many cook outs and no one has ever guessed that liver was hidden among the ingredients.

Ingredients

2 pounds grassfed ground beef

1 pound pastured ground pork*

1/2-1 pound grassfed beef liver, ground (optional)

1 large red onion, minced

2 teaspoons unrefined salt

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoons Chipotle chili powder

In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients.  Form into patties about 3/4-1 inch thick.  Place them on the grill and cook about 4-6 minutes on each side.  Remove from the heat and melt thick slices of raw cheese over the top of each burger.  Serve with our homemade ketchup, dijon mustard, or mayonnaise on spinach buns.  Organic leaf lettuce also makes a great alternative to a bun!

*If you do not eat pork for whatever reason, just substitute another pound of grass-fed beef.
